Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the team reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
